Incident

On May 10, 2020, Jaden Hayden, a 20-year-old black male and new resident to a nursing home "admitted for recovery and rehabilitation purposes on a temporary stay" filmed himself viciously assaulting his 75-year-old white roommate, Norman Bledsoe, telling him to "get the fuck off my bed nigga" and calling him a "bitch ass nigga" while repeatedly punching him:

As Hayden moved the camera around, Bledsoe could be seen bloodied and dazed, lying in a heap of bedsheets.

Hayden recorded and posted the video himself to social media, where it was widely circulated.

Family members say Bledsoe suffered "four broken fingers, broken ribs and a broken jaw" as a result of the attack.

Norman Bledsoe

The victim, Norman Bledsoe, was a long-term resident of the nursing facility. He was also an Army veteran.

Two months after the brutal attack, Bledsoe died due in part to effects from the attack:

Norman Bledsoe had been depressed and was not eating properly since the May 15 beating at the Westwood Nursing Center in the 16850 block of Schaefer Highway on Detroit's northwest side, his nephew Kevin Bledsoe said.

"His eating habits went downhill after (the alleged assault), and he lost quite a bit of weight," Kevin Bledsoe said.

Bledsoe said he learned from his father Monday morning about his uncle's death, although he was unsure of the cause.

Hayden had a YouTube channel, "pranks and dares theanimalferrari", where he posted other videos of himself assaulting people, as well as his theorizing about how black people are "god's chosen people," and "the black race is the chosen race; black race is supposed to rule the earth."
