Joseph and Jossline Roland were a white couple who were robbed and murdered by a black male after responding to a fake online ad for a used car.
Incident[edit]
According to police,[1] the Rolands went to Southlands Mall on Aug. 14 to buy a Toyota RAV4 that was posted on the Letgo app by 18-year-old Kyree Brown. The RAV4 had been stolen a few days earlier.
According to the arrest affidavit,[2] Brown said he met the couple at the mall and told them he accidentally brought the wrong vehicle title. He convinced them to follow him to an apartment on East Cornell Circle near South Parker Road.
Upon arrival, Brown pointed the gun at Joseph Roland, while the couple was still in their car, and demanded the cash they brought to buy the RAV4. He said their car started moving and he decided to shoot Joseph - and accidentally shot Jossline, as well.
Joseph and Jossline were pronounced dead at the hospital, within five minutes of each other.
Victims[edit]
Joseph and Jossline Roland leave behind five young children.[3] A GoFundMe was started for the Roland children by a family friend. As of September 4, 2020 it had raised $163,021.
According to the charging affidavit, when officers arrived at the Roland family home after the shooting to inform remaining family about the deaths, they found a home with young children, the eldest being a 17-year-old girl.[2] The girl told officers that they had no other family members in the state of Colorado.
